People Skills | Week 2: How to Make Time for People

How often do you think, “I’m just too busy”? The idea of giving more time to relationships probably seems like the most draining thing to do. Well, that may not actually be the case. In fact, it’s the opposite.

Process, journal or discuss the themes of this article - here's a few questions to get the ball rolling...

Welcome to the Chaser–a few questions after the weekend service to start conversations. If this is your first time in a group, or your group has new members, take a few minutes and introduce yourself. Two truths and a lie is always a good place to start.

  1. Open up your calendar and take a few moments to review it. If your calendar was read by a complete stranger, what would they say it communicates about what you value?

  2. If you feel like a hospitality guru, share why you regularly open up your home to others. If you don’t normally welcome others into your home, discuss why that is.

  3. Chuck challenged us to open three things: our calendar, our home, and our life. For each of these, share if you are currently doing that (or not)—and why.

  4. Hospitality isn’t about time. Instead, it’s about getting past the “not enoughs” — like “our place isn’t big enough” or “I’m not put together enough.” What “not enough” stops you from engaging in hospitality? Have you overcome a “not enough” to practice hospitality? Share your story.

  5. Now to the good stuff—before we wrap our time together, everyone share your favorite dishes. Get into the details. Favorite drinks, deserts, courses. We all love food, right?

More from the Weekend

We learned entertaining seeks to impress while hospitality seeks to bless. Chuck challenged us to open up 1 of our 21 meals in the next week. So invite someone into one of those meals—right now. Send them a text and put it on the calendar. Don’t overthink this. You got it. Want to take it up a notch? Host one of these meals in your home, apartment, or dorm.
