How to Demolish the Barrier Between You and God

At some point, all of us feel like there is a barrier between us and God. This week Kyle talks about demolishing the barrier between you and God.

Process, journal or discuss the themes of this article - here's a few questions to get the ball rolling...

Welcome to the Weekend-Follow Up This is the group part of the Bible Challenge, so your questions are based on specific Bible passages from the weekend message. Each week, your group will discover what God might be saying to you, and how you can respond through a group discussion.

  1. What’s your biggest pet-peeve? When you see it, how do you usually respond?

  2. What stood out to you most from this week’s message? Why did that spark for you?

  3. When do you feel close to God? What emotions, actions, or thoughts help you feel close? What about when you don’t feel close?

  4. How do you respond to God wanting to be close to you? What makes that challenging or easy to receive?

  5. What makes it difficult to recognize or acknowledge sin in your life?

  6. How does it feel to hear your sin doesn’t have to keep you away from God?

  7. Even though Jesus ripped the curtain God created that acted as a barrier between us and Him, we still create new curtains all the time. Where is there a curtain currently separating you from God?

  8. What’s one way you can start to believe that the curtain has already been torn, and lean into being close to God this week? Share your plan with the group.

  9. Let’s end with prayer. You can say something like, “Jesus, thank you so much for ripping the veil apart. Thank you for making it possible for us to know you in new and incredible ways. Give us the discernment to see the barriers we create that separate us and the strength to tear them down. We love you. Amen.”

Bonus Questions! Check these out if you’re on a roll and want to go a little deeper.

  • On a scale of 1-10 (10 being Jesus-level oneness) how close is your relationship with God right now?
  • Is there a place in your life where you feel shame? If so, share it with the group. Saying it out loud, and choosing to turn towards God in that area of your life is what we call repentance. If you choose repentance today, receive forgiveness and have someone in the group pray a blessing over you.
  • How would your life look different if you stopped holding up barriers between yourself and Him?
